Back from the Living Dead....

Well, it's day eleven.

The worst thing now is my emotional state. It is up and down, shall we say.

That and the cold. No matter what the central heating does, or what coat I put on, or duvet I get under; I am still always very cold.

Then there's my legs. Addicts often complain of "restless legs" when coming off, and I have experienced that, especially off Heroin, less so Methadone. However, with me the real bitch has always been, and is now, the ache and pain in my legs, or for that matter all over, but mostly my legs.

It is as if every mile I've walked on them whilst "under the influnce", and hence didn't feel that much at the time; well, I am feeling them all now! (Those of you that know me will also surely know, that adds up to quite a few miles!)

Oh yeah, and the odd cravings. These have calmed right down now compared to before, but I still always wake up with them. I think it is called "Psychosomatic".

My appetite's coming back though, as is the sleep (finally!).

I guess the trick to dealing with any and all of this is to be aware of it, know it for what it is, and keep breathing....in.....and.....out....

*******

I have to say though, in all seriousness, that meditation seems to be the key to the kind of inner calm that I've been hungering after all my life.....

......and I fully expect that if I stick with it, and get more practised at it, that the eventual rewards, with regards "expanding my mind" will turn out to be worth the effort and the time it cost.

*******

Of course, if you'd rather not fuck about with all that crap, and don't much care what misery you cause in your life, or what pain you suffer; then as an ADULT, responsible for your own actions and consequences..... hey drop some pills and speed, have a trip or six, suck on a crack pipe, shove a spike in your arm; whatever floats your boat.

Just don't say I never warned you!

Love Courage and Strength to you all,

Back From the Living Dead....

I should know better by now. I really should.

But as the saying goes; "Old habits die hard."

I am, unsuprisingly, very much struggling to sleep at the moment.

When I do it invariably requires alcohol (something I am quitting on the Soltice). I then manage an hour, perhaps two, before waking up in a worse state than before I went to sleep!

And I should not be drinking spirits at all really, not in my position. It is too damn dangerous for me to do so.

This will piss some of you off, but I make no apology. The truth may hurt sometimes, but it should never offend.

I honestly would prefer, if I had to choose, to be an opiate addict than an alcohol addict. I have been a problem drinker on many occassions and boy AM I A PROBLEM WHEN I AM DRUNK!

Then there's the smoking issue. Civvies, roll ups, electric fags, and even the odd spilff, now and then. It's the nicotine that's the real issue there though (cannabis being non-addictive as I am sure you already know). I have been addicted to nicotine far more heavily, and for a much much longer time period (since I was about11) than I was with heroin.....and......

.....tobacco addiction will kill you more surely than a managed and controlled opiate addiction will.....and.....

......in some respects it is actually harder to quit than heroin!

Now as a blatant and loud supporter of legalisation this is a real concern to me.

When we legalise (becasue we must, if we want to protect our children, and their children, from the kind of pitfalls and dangers I have spent my life falling into!) we must do it intelligently, gradually, and very very carefully.

After all, we live in a culture where some level of alcohol dependance is considered normal. We laugh and joke about it, about how drunk we are going to get, have gotten in the past, about how much we "need" a drink.......and if the Governments of this world do actually grow a pair and step up to this challenge then they need to make sure that this same cultural acceptance of addiction, in ANY form, does not extend outwards to include opium, dia-morphine, cocaine, etc etc.

So, I want to make this point here today about the whole issue.

There is no "silver bullet" that is going to erradicate the issue of psychoactives from the experience of Humanity.

I am not claiming to have all the answers. I do not know how we should go about implementing leagalisation. Working that out will require better brains than the rather warped one I possess, that much I do know!

*******

Yet, it must be done. Somehow, somewhen, it must be done. Because the "War on (innocent hard working poor communities) Drugs" has failed.

I have watched over the course of my life this problem explode out of control and permeate every corner of our society. There is not currently a single city, town or even villiage in this land where a minor, with cash in thier pocket, cannot gain access to these drugs. The same could not be said of say...vodka...for instance.

And if we just keep attacking the problem by doing more of the same, more of what we have already tried, then the situation is just going to keep on getting worse. For everyone.

At the end of the day there are no easy, simple, cheap or flawless solutions.

Perhaps though, if we addressed why it is that so many young minds are so desperate to escape from the mundanity and sham of a life lived on materialistic aims and ambitions then it'd be a start?

*******

I know now, as the Floyd song says, "I don't need no drugs to calm me!" I am learning to calm myself.

I also believe, emphatically, that what we do all need, with regard this thorny and highly charged emotional issue, is more, better and honest EDUCATION!

Because let's face it.

Frankly, It hasn't been all that impressive so far, has it?

A Random Wondering.

                                                            A Random Wondering.

I have always, for as long as I recall having an opinion on the matter, been against war on principle.

And yet......

.......throughout my life my fantasy/game life has been dominated by simulated conflict/war scenarios!

mmmmmmm.........?
A Poem that I put together many years ago(do not ask me exactly how many!)

I guess I was on gear at the time, because I filed it as "A Junkies Prayer" and as some of you know , a Junky is a particular kind of drug user.....

....Would respect and respond to any feedback, positive or negative, creative or destructive. Whatever.

Starting Over.

Stolen pencil, stolen paper,
Stolen Words?

Have I words of my own?
Has my soul grown?
Show the evidence,
Of confidence,
With temperance.

Resistance,
Against the tide,
I'm open wide,
Yet try to hide,
This damaged me,
This me inside.

So then leave me,
Don’t grieve me,
It is better believe me.
If I deceive you,
As you deceive me.

Has nothing then changed?
Nor time rearranged?
You know the dangers
I face.
I am still a fool,
Yet in-spite of it all,
I want to get out of
This place.

Planets that spin,
As evil men grin.
Self centred lies,
Cause suicide ties.
Betrayals of friends,
Dreams as they end.
Bad times foreseen,
Make all our souls mean.

I am falling apart,
I am losing my heart,
Where is the start?
Can I start,
Over?

Can I start over?

Back from the Living Dead.....

Eight days "clean"!

I really rather expected to be feeling myself again by now. I suppose I should have known better.

Having consumed a dose of some kind of opiate/opioid every day for the last four years or so, (and before that.....and before that.....and before that.....etc etc) I guess it will take a while for my physical self to level off; as well as my emotional and psychological self.

*******

"Psychological".

Now there is a very misused and misunderstood term if ever there was one, almost as misconstrued or misrepresented as the word God, or the word love.

For the most part folk seem to interperate psychological as somehow meaning "not real".

"Oh, his problems are all psychological" folk will say dismissively, or words like it.

What they mean is, "I don't understand it" or "He's imagining it/making it up" or "It is not a real problem."

Well, let me assure you all that a psychological problem is about as real as any problem gets. We are after all psychological creatures, are we not?

What is "psychology" anyway?

Now, let me be clear here. I am not any kind of expert on this subject. I haven't been to any university, or read all that much about it (I have a vaugue laymans grasp of Freudian v Jungian perspectives, but it is the grasp on an uneducated man). I am only spouting my own observations, from my particular perspective, for my own reasons. Interperate them as you will, ignore them if you choose.

Knowledge of the Self.

That, for me, is the definition of the word, psychology.

And this is the point I am trying to make here today. A psychologically healthy person is a person who truly "Knows Themselves".

I have arrogantly, and ignorantly stompped through life assuming I knew who I was, and saying "sod you" to anyone who tried to tell me different.

After all, they are not me, so what the hell would they know?

Right?

Lately however, I have come to realise what I have actually been doing all these years.

Lashing out at those who I cannot help but be attracted to, becasue they resemble me in so many ways.

I see myself when I look at them.

As a vain, self absorbed and introspective narcissist, if I do catch my own reflection in someone elses eyes then, like the man himself, it can be an extreme effort for me to tear my gaze away from it, for a time at least.

This can of course come across as if I have "fallen in love" with them, but that's not the case. What I tend to fall into more often than not is some form or other of OBSESSION.

The flip side of this tendancy being that I then project my failings and hypocrisies onto them and assume they are the problem. I lash out, sometimes very savagely indeed, to punish them for being as weak and ignorant as I know in my deepest self that I am. I blame them for my failings, my choices, my actions, my consequences, my problems.

But this is absurd and childish behaviour!

The attitude of a zombie.

The mental condition of someone without any psychological health, without any self awareness.

The problem is, and always has been, me. I am the only person in my life who I need to change and control. I need to teach true self knowledge and self realisiation to me before I can hope to have a clue how to help anyone else achieve it!

To go through life, as I have, hating and condemning the world for it's sickness, whilst carrying the same dis-ease in yourself, and spreading it about as you go round damaging nearly everyone you meet is as hypocritical as it gets!

I am beginning to learn who I am now.

The personality that I see emerging as the fog lifts is not a very "nice" or "moral" one, and I cannot any longer pretend otherwise. I apologise to those people to whom I have pretended so in the past.

I am however a very sincere, and very intense person.

One of the dangers of this of course is getting lost in introspection, dissapearing up your own arsehole, so to speak, and I surely know that I have done plenty of that over the years, and probably will do so again in some manner or form....

....but I am walking the tight-rope here, working out who I am, but trying also to look Up and Outwards at the same time, and see with eyes open and awake the True World around me.

Yes, it is a world full of the same sickness I carry inside. A world full of hypocrisy, deception, corruption, violence, abuse, manipulation, and money/power addicts.

*******

However, it is also a World of Amazing Beauty, Extreme Self Sacrifice, Awesome Love, and Infinte Wonder and Mystery!

And you know what? I think I am going to start enjoying it at long last.

Just as soon as I have achieved a healthy psychology!

Love, Courage & Strength to you all.

Alan

Back from the Living Dead...continued

I have been "clean" of opiate/opioid influences for exactly one week now.
I cannot say it feels that great just now. In fact, it has been a week of torture, and It's not quite over yet.
If and when I do manage an hour or two of sleep, I always awaken shivering, sweating, with that inner cold that no amount of clothing, or central heating can thaw.
And of course cravings.
Oh, the cravings!
The last time I managed to achieve this level of recovery was over the Christmas of 2008.
That time I lasted about a month, before I relapsed and went straight back down the same hole again.
About two months after that my girlfriend at the time found me as good as dead in her bath. My injecting "kit" all strewn across the bathroom floor, as I sank beneath the waters of both bath and consciousness....a story already told elsewhere....
I could cite all kinds of reasons and excuses and blame for that happening at that time and in that place ,which was the town of Winchester ( which officially doesn't have a drug, or homelessness problem. A beautiful place full of history and mystery. Go take a visit, and have a good look around you if you want to check out the veracity of that little piece of Officialdom). However, it boiled down, in the end, to a simple case of what mattered more to me; the path of least resistance, or the narrow road. The road to salvation.
.....And this is the point I want to make today about recovering from addictions; It is not an easy thing for anyone to do. It has little to do with "morality" (whatever that is), or upbringing, or environmental factors. Yes, of course, these things all play their part, but in the end the effort required to win a fight like the one I am currently engaged in is going to take all that you possess within yourself, whoever you think you are.
Chances are it may also take you a few goes at it. They key to success, as it is in anything you endeavour, is....
.....DO NOT GIVE IN!
You have to keep getting up off the canvas, no matter how dented or bruised your pride my feel, no matter if the crowd wants to see you lose, braying and shouting out for your defeat to happen before their cynical, and judgemental eyes. No matter even if your loved ones have walked from the arena in disgust at the pitiful and shameful impotence of your efforts so far....
Because, although making some kind of amends to those you have hurt is part of the process of true recovery, that has to come later.
This isn't their fight, not really (though they may well feel the blows you suffer, as well as the ones you inflict on them) no mate. This is your fight, you have to knock this big ugly bastard in front of you into submission by fighting it with all you've got, and for all you are worth; and the will to carry on fighting, no matter how hard it gets, or how much it hurts, or what supporters you do, or do not, have, has to come from within you.
Where can you get the strength to keep going from?
Ah, well that is where things get very, shall we say....subjective?
I have this much Gnosis.
When the human mind has reached the end of it's own resources, but not the end of it's will to keep fighting evil, then all that is left is to reach outwards for that Conscious Other, and ask for help.
If you do this, with Authenticity and Honesty, then the Conscious Other will respond.
Personally, I don't think it matters all that much What or Who you call IT, or in what framework of reference you choose to try to understand IT.
What matters is that you call IT!

Love, Courage & Strength to you all.

Back From the Living Dead

(The real zombie apocolypse!)

It was the cold and snowy December of '90. I remember so vividly the brilliance, the beauty, the fascination of that glistening snow. It remains to this day one of my most dangerous triggers, and yet still to me, one of Natures most beautiful Creations. However, I get ahead of myself, get used to that; I do tend to "ramble round the hedges", as they say.

I remember it so vividly, because it was the first time a needle was stuck in my arm. This was done by a man most of you would describe as evil, but I know now he was simply damaged.

In that instant of blossoming blood and alchemical ritual, I found a greater, more potent, more dangerous and less rational me.

The drug in the barrel of that particular hypodermic was amphetamine, and I must make clear that absolutely no coercion was involved. I wanted that needle to penetrate me. I wanted to know what it was like, how it would feel, what it would do.

I possessed, and still do, a natural curiosity about life.

For the best part of a decade I then went on to explore the levels of desperation and exictement that a lifestyle of speed abuse can take a man of my limited capacities to. This experience was extraordinary, and yet extremely damaging to my already fragile psycho-spiritual self, my ego if you prefer. Persistent though my love affair with speed was however, it eventually gave way to the bigger player in the playground; heroin.

My fight with this addiction isn't over yet, and probably never will be, but at least now I am physiologically free of the habit.......

..........and I suppose that the main reason I am picking this blog up again now is the same as when I started it. To offer some hope.

Hope to anyone out there who is fighting addiction, suffering addiction, or feels they are losing, or has lost, a loved one to addiction.

Hope also to me, that I won't screw it up again this time.

Because I am fighting for my life.

I know what you are thinking, tall talk for a burnt out waster like me, but please stick with me, and in the long haul, we shall see if I make any sense or not.

Together let's explore the honest truth, let us not fear Breaking the Taboo, let us not fear anything at all!

Love, Courage and Strength, to you all.

A free and just world, with equal rights and opportunities for all. Do me a favour!

So I'm sitting here listening to the latest crap that the power mad politicians are spouting. Reading about the latest cruelties that human folk, just like you and me, are committing against each other across this God forsaken planet. Watching the odd video warning me about global conspiracies to create a "New World Order" (apparently there's this club of egocentric billionaires planning a future where only half a billion of humanities best and brightest will get to live forever in some star trek like adventure exploring the universe and cheating death by the use of an endless resource of harvested organs and alien inspired technology that will make them immortal, somehow. Talk about deluded! Silly old men scared of their own mortality, either because they are pure materialists who fear the oblivion of non-existence, or because deep in their souls they fear the possibility that they will be held accountable for the evil that their power addicted lives have caused! www.wanttoknow.info  www.disclosureproject.org ), or inviting me to commit to some vague 4 year plan to turn the world into some kind of Utopian dream fouryearsgo.org, and it all gets me thinking. What exactly can I do to ensure that whenever Sister Skuld finally cuts the thread of my life off, that I will have left this world in some way a slightly better place than I found it? I can hardly pretend that I have done a good job of it so far, having spent my youth being something of a one man petty crime wave, my twenties running around in a speed induced mania, and my thirties so far spent mostly in an opiate induced trance like semi wakeful sate! I seem to be one of those folk who despite being essentially a decent hearted and generous man seems unable to maintain any emotional attachments to my fellow humans without in the end causing them pain or loss or suffering of some kind. Yet here I am, committed at least to never surrender to any of the social dogmas and expectations that the perverse power structures of this world seem hell bent on ramming down my throat, and equally determined to remain true to my own twisted and confused set of principles.
It is a fact of the society I have grown up in that people like me, who have walked along the dangerous precipice of drug use, abuse and addiction their whole lives, are looked down upon by most folk. There is this perception that only the most deviant or deficient of humans would ever succumb to such an obviously harmful and predictably self destructive lifestyle. Yet the more time I spend wrestling with the necessities of survival the clearer it becomes to me that every human alive is in some way an addict, most of them living their lives blissfully in ignorance or denial as to the nature of their own irrational dependence, and willfully dismissive of any personal accountability for the pure murderous and ruthless evil that is perpetrated by their suppliers so that they can maintain their addiction. What addiction am I talking about here? Money addiction of course. How many of us can say, hand on heart, that we are not in some way completely dependant, both physically and psychologically, to this irrational concept of money? To me the fact that it is a pure con, and that the nature of it's power is down to peoples susceptibility to mind control and peer pressure is obvious. Money serves no intrinsic purpose, we cannot eat it, build or create with it, get high on it. What we think of as money is a token of somebodies ability to pay the price printed or minted on it's surface and has no real value at all! Yet from day one of our lives we are conditioned and indoctrinated to believe that the pursuit and amassing of this product is not only necessary but also a worthy way to spend ones life. We rate the value and worth of our fellow humans according to the levels of this abstract idea that they can draw upon. We occasionally, those of us with a conscience that is, pay some kind of acknowledgment to the evil nature of the worlds treatment of those nations that seem to lack the resources or the leadership to be considered an economic force in the world. Yet at the same time we continue to enjoy the relative comfort and luxury of our lives, bought and paid for by their suffering and despair. We all seem to believe that by sending our troops and launching our missiles against these poverty stricken places, indiscriminately murdering countless innocent individuals, and destroying their homes, their cultural centers, their places of worship and education, that we are manifestly proving ourselves the "good guys". We applaud our leaders for freeing them, and think how fortunate they are that we enlightened countries care enough to drag them by force and often into the same cultural and spiritual vacuum that we ourselves have been brain washed into thinking of as "civilised" and "normal" and "developed". At the same time our own citizens are sinking by the millions into a ever deeper pit of emotional and psychological despair, killing ourselves slowly with junk food and narcotics, both legal and illegal. We run around the place in ever faster and more polluting means of transport desperately trying to keep up with the ever growing need we have been subjected to from birth, and accusing of insanity or  moral deficiency those few individuals who try, with heroic but i fear often futile efforts, to break the mold and formulate some other mode of community that depends not on grasping hold of what consumable or tangible possessions we can, regardless of where it leaves those less able to compete, but rather on a more idealistic philosophy of community and co-operation, where the strong protect and nurture the weak, instead of exploiting their weakness and benefiting from their misery and desperation.
So yes, I am a junky. The lowest of the low right? The scourge of our modern world and the cause of all our social problems. A danger to our children and a threat to the stability of our social order. Am I? Really? I just though I was a mixed up guy, carrying with him a deep sense of self loathing and a seemingly incurable frustration with the unjust, unbalanced and uncaring world he finds himself in, constantly amazed at the willful blindness of those around him, who refuse to even consider the possibility that the universe does not run on the laws and principles their Vampric Masters and Scientific Priests have convinced them that it does, and who tries by whatever means he can to desensitise himself to the seemingly hopelessness of the scenario he has become a player in. I don't know anymore if it is me who is in a trance like semi wakeful state, or if in reality, I am one of the few who are fully aware yet locked in some other nightmare that is not my own, rather one that has been consciously created around us with such skill and cynical purpose as to force us to ignore the urgings of our souls to reach for the Heavens and unite with the Divine Principle. Keeping us distracted from our own awesome potential by making it impossible to do anything but preoccupy ourselves with the constant need to ward off the withdrawal symptoms, that can and will be fatal, if we do not satisfy our most pernicious and perennial of addictions. I am a junky alright, and so are you, and him, and her and them, all of us desperately and hopelessly addicted to money.

When in the name of sense and reason are we all going to wake the fuck up and do our rattle, sweat it out, suffer the pain of transition, so as to pave the way forward for our future generations to truly be free and united and safe and fed. Because if we allow this status-quo to continue, and refuse to contemplate a reality where money addiction is neither a worthy or necessary way to spend our lives, then it is fair to say that maybe those mad, frightened and deluded old men may get their wish after all. We are the ones here now who have to make this choice. It's just like coming off heroin, no-body can make you do it, you have got to want to do it and make it happen yourself, and the first step? Admitting that we have a problem.

So what will I do next? I don't have a job, I refuse to claim benefits, nobody owes me a living right? So I guess then it is obvious. I will eventually waste away and die as a result of my money withdrawal symptoms, the only comfort being that I am certain in my belief that evil is not the true master of the cosmos. By it's own nature it will always be the author of it's own destruction, and at some far off time in the future the essential truth will become apparent, that to do what is right is to be true to yourself, and not sell off your humanity by sacrificing the sovereignty and lives of others less powerful than you, for the sake of a longer, more comfortable, less risky life. Good will out, and the evil perpetrators of injustice and deception will, like all of us, one day be made to account for themselves and the decisions they made, and the crimes they committed against the defensless. If I am wrong, and all that awaits me is oblivion, then at least it will be preferable to this pit of corruption and deception we call Earth.

Peace and Love everyone, sleep tight & try not to have any nightmares!
